Anasthasia & Zoey
Nestled in the foothills of Gallu Devi Temple facing the sunset and the surrounding Himalayan landscape of the upper Kangra Valley hang two works by Jared Madere, Anasthasia In The Carpool and Zoey Carves The River. Created during his first four months living in India, the imagery of these works lay out a serpentine narrative that celebrates the awaking of the gamine spirit.
A young Anasthasia looks out the window of a family car while being driven in a carpool with other children. In a state of bored longing she willfully or otherwise disintegrates her physical form into an effervescent spectral puddle. She finds herself being of glistening and evaporating bubble gum pebbles in a trans-dimensional babbling brook.
Zoey with her violin enchants an architectural megastructure with an overflowing garden at its core. Through the power of her music she causes the building to spin down the mountain like a top carving out a fresh river basin.
These tapestries are an ode to those who grapple with their potential as individuals in relationship to the whole.
