Jargon Off The Double
I first saw the art of Dachi Cole and Candice Williams at a group show in Manhattan last summer. What occurred to me then -taking notice of the striking relic-like dolls carefully created from recycled materials- was that I wasn’t looking at art born out of the intricacies of the insides of a person- but the outsides of a relationship.
Jargon Off The Double is an exhibition of a rare artistic universe – bound and unbound – where nearly 100 handmade masks and faces combine to become larger facial constructs whose larger amalgamations become planets adrift in a still greater universe. Each facet of this megacosm bearing its individual expression while lending itself to an even more wondrous voice.
We are beings of our stories. Stories are what keeps us together and take us apart. Jargon Off The Double is story of an unwithered revival. The artistic journey of two human beings burgeoning with generosity; their carefully compiled and compressed textiles are digitally rendered to an epic tableau that echoes of talent, time, compassion, and a dewy reincarnation.
